Our Top 3 Eats & Why
Austin's food scene is nothing short of legendary, but with thousands of incredible options ranging from acclaimed food trucks to fine dining, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. After years of living here and guiding countless tours, I've narrowed it down. These are my absolute top three spots—the places I consistently take my own family and friends when they come to town.
First on the list is Terry Black's Barbecue, where the brisket is undoubtedly the star of the show. The oak-smoked flavor, the perfect peppery bark, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture are unmatched. Carrying on a rich family legacy rooted in Lockhart's BBQ heritage, their Barton Springs Road location offers an iconic Austin experience. Walking through the line and smelling the post oak smoke is half the fun. Always order the moist brisket, and don't sleep on their massive beef ribs.

For dessert, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is not your typical ice cream shop. Located on bustling South Congress, Jeni's serves up incredibly unique flavors like Brambleberry Crisp and Brown Butter Almond Brittle. The impossibly creamy texture and high-quality ingredients make it the ultimate refreshing follow-up to a heavy BBQ meal. Taking a cone to-go and strolling down SoCo is a quintessential Austin evening.
Finally, Taqueria 10/10 is an under-the-radar gem that truly embodies the local spirit. Serving up authentic, perfectly executed street-style tacos, their al pastor is phenomenal, and the fresh, vibrant salsas tie everything together. It's the kind of unassuming, fiercely authentic spot that mostly locals frequent, which is exactly why it's a prominent highlight on our Austin Eats tour.
All three of these unforgettable spots are featured on our Austin Eats: BBQ, Sweets & More tour. Experiencing these culinary landmarks with a local guide who knows exactly what to order, when to go, and the stories behind the food elevates a simple meal into a memorable experience. Come hungry and let us show you the best bites in town.
